The Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dentistry, and Medicine programs always receive a much greater number of applications than there are spots available. Therefore, these three degree programs have selective admission at all German universities, which is why applications for the first academic semester are managed centrally by the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (Foundation for University Admission – “Hochschulstart”).
You can find information about the requirements and the application for the first academic semester on hochschulstart.de (in German).
You must apply for the first academic semester via hochschulstart.de if one of the following applies to you:
- You are a citizen of an EU country.
- You are a citizen of an EEA country.
- You have earned a German Abitur.
- You have earned a university degree at a German higher education institution.
If you earned your school leaving certificate abroad and are not a citizen of Germany, an EU country or an EEA country, submit an application for the state examination programs Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, and Dentistry to JGU.
International applicants:
Did you obtain your education outside of Germany? If this is the case, you should first look into applying for a Certificate of Recognition of your international certificates and check for potentially required German language proficiency.
On hochschulstart.de, you will find detailed information on how the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung allocates study spots for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, and Dentistry. You can also check the values of the selection limits for “best Abitur graduates (Abiturbesten),” “university selection procedure (Auswahlverfahren der Hochschule),” and “additional aptitude ranking (Zusätzliche Eignungsquote, ZEQ).”
You can view JGU’s selection criteria for our own university selection procedure and additional aptitude ranking here.
If you have been accepted, you will find your official letter of admission on hochschulstart.de. All further information on the next steps and how to enroll can be found there.
If you have not been accepted, you can find out which other options you have (e.g., participation in the waitlist procedure) via hochschulstart.de as well.
The allocation of spots through hochschulstart.de takes place according to different quotas. In the advance quotas (Vorabquoten), a proportion of the spots is allocated to special applicant groups. The remaining spots are allocated proportionally as part of the main quotas (Hauptquoten):
- 30% according to the average grade of the university entrance qualification (Abiturbestenquote – generally according to the Abitur, in relation to the federal state quotas)
- 60% according to the universities’ selection procedures pursuant to criteria that the universities themselves define
- 10% according to the additional aptitude rating (Zusätzliche Eignungsquote, ZEQ), which only uses selection criteria unrelated to grades
Therefore, 60% of the degree program spots are allocated in accordance with criteria determined by the universities themselves. Below, you can find out which criteria apply for spots at JGU.
The following criteria apply in the JGU selection procedure. A maximum of 100 points can be reached.
