The Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dentistry, and Medicine programs always receive a much greater number of applications than there are spots available. Therefore, these three degree programs have selective admission at all German universities, which is why applications for the first academic semester are managed centrally by the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (Foundation for University Admission – “Hochschulstart”).

The allocation of spots through hochschulstart.de takes place according to different quotas. In the advance quota (Vorabquote), a proportion of the spots is allocated to special applicant groups. The remaining spots are allocated proportionally as part of the main quotas (Hauptquote) :

  • 30% according to the average grade of the university entrance qualification (Abiturbestenquote – generally according to the Abitur, in relation to the federal state quotas)
  • 60% according to the universities’ selection procedures pursuant to criteria that the universities themselves define
  • 10% according to the additional aptitude rating (Zusätzliche Eignungsquote, ZEQ), which only uses selection criteria unrelated to grades

Therefore, 60% of the degree program spots are allocated in accordance with criteria determined by the universities themselves. Below, you can find out which criteria apply for spots at JGU.

The Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung awards 10% of the study spots according to the additional aptitude rating. The selection criteria included in the additional aptitude rating are not related to school grades. Pharmaceutical Sciences is an exception. The selection criteria are usually related to the relevant subject. This webpage will tell you which criteria apply to the additional aptitude rating.
